The three essential elements, the koru, the parent and the child have been worked into one simple figure. There is a suggestion of a heart symbolising the aroha which nurtures us all.

The design of the ATPENZ logo was inspired by an original concept by Karen Grant of Karanga Mai Teen Parent School in Kaiapoi and stylized by artist Bay Riddell of Gisborne.

Karen wrote of her design:

"This logo represents a young parent and his or her baby in their arms. The reason for the background being a koru is because koru means new life or new beginning and I think this is relevant, where we are as young parents. We are getting a second chance at an education ... I now know where I am going in life".
